In anticipation of the disruptive effects of Tropical Cyclone Kristine, Baguio Water District General Manager Engr. Salvador M. Royeca convened the BWD Emergency Response Team (BWD-ERT) early on October 23, 2024, to coordinate preparations and response efforts. This proactive strategy aims to minimize the potential impact of the typhoon on the district’s operations.
GM Royeca lauded the early mobilization of the BWD-ERT, which has been on high alert since October 21, 2024, to ensure a rapid response as conditions evolve. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of closely monitoring key facilities, particularly pumping stations and reservoirs, which may face heightened risks due to anticipated heavy rainfall. Preparations are already in place, with generator sets stationed at major pumping stations to manage potential power outages, tree pruning conducted as needed to prevent damage to properties, and plans for close monitoring of rainwater harvesting facilities.
Additional precautions have been advised across all ongoing projects, with instructions for contractors to implement precautionary measures. Drilling sites have been urged to secure equipment, while pipelaying contractors have been directed to secure excavations to prevent debris from clogging drainage systems and waterways. Further, BWD is maintaining close coordination with the local government’s Disaster Risk Management Council to streamline efforts and provide support, if needed.
The public is encouraged to report water supply problems, broken pipes, and other water supply-related concerns through BWD 24/7 hotline numbers: (074)442-3218, (074)442-4929, 09088651504, 09176794929, 09228409765.
